According to the Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings Steve Beresford is one of the unsung geniuses of modern European music.
He was active in countless bands in the 80s, from The Slits to The Melody Four and has become a central figure in the British improvisational scene, collaborating with the likes of Okkyung Lee, Pat Thomas, John Edwards, Mark Sanders, John Butcher, Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, Han Bennink and many more.
A brief foray into the world of Pop with the piece Comfortable Gestures was included in the Music from Memory compilation Uneven Paths: Deviant Pop From Europe 1980–1991 in 2018.
For the past decade he has concentrated most of his compositional efforts on tracks for independent British film and television, including pieces of strange Samba, jittery Jazz, melancholic moods, prepared piano, toy shenanigans and of course his ingenious wit.
